Paralegal Position in Sussex
We are seeking to recruit a paralegal to join us as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has either completed the LPC or has a qualifying law degree and is interested in studying the SQE part time alongside a full time job with us.
Your starting salary will be between £20k and £25k (depending on prior experience). If you perform well we will in due course want to offer a two year training contract, for which we currently pay £28,500 in the first year and £32,000 in the second year. Training contracts are commonly offered once you have worked with us for between 6 to 12 months and on the basis that the LPC or SQE has already been completed. For those yet to start the SQE we provide course fee grants of between £5,000 to £10,000, subject to certain conditions.
Your new firm
The Jonathan Lea Network is a forward-thinking specialist business law firm. Since we hired our first employee at the start of 2018 our turnover has increased by more than 1000% and we moved into a much bigger office in November 2021 so as to accommodate more new joiners. We tripled our turnover throughout the course of 2020 and 2021 despite the economic restrictions and challenges faced by our clients. You can read a review of how we coped in 2020 here which we feel demonstrates our firm’s uniquely resilient, positive and go-ahead culture.
We are poised for significant growth and are looking for someone who wants to supercharge their career and make a name for themselves by getting in early and contributing to a fast-growing new practice which has already earned a very strong reputation for developing juniors and offering excellent career progression opportunities. You will benefit from the kind of experience not available at larger more established firms and will learn more, contribute more and grow personally and professionally in a way that will exceed your expectations. If things go well you can expect to significantly increase your salary and progress to a partnership role many years earlier than at a larger more traditional law firm.
Our office is based in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, 5 minutes walk from the train station.
By joining us you will never be just a number and will always have a full workload, but you will also be able to enjoy a healthy work life balance. You will be able to live and work in an attractive environment and also benefit from close proximity to London (40 minutes), Gatwick (10 minutes) and Brighton (20 minutes). Ultimately, our location and set up also enables you to escape the high living costs, property prices, congestion, commuting issues and unhealthy environment associated with having to work and live in London.
Your new role
Our clients include leading technology start-ups and the owners of companies across a range of industry sectors.
We are very much business focused, although we are also now full service and cover several private client areas of law too. You will mostly work on a mix of both corporate transactional and contentious dispute resolution matters, while you will also gain experience in employment, intellectual property, commercial property and commercial contracts.
Most of our clients are based in and around London and the South East, while our work is also frequently international in scope.
What we are looking for
Applicants should have:
- some good academic results;
- an ability to work well independently and use your own initiative, but also react positively to close supervision;
- a meticulous eye for detail and an eloquent and precise way with words;
- high service and presentation standards;
- IT adroitness and social media savviness;
- a genuine passion for entrepreneurship, business and transactional work;
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- sangfroid and the ability to calmly and humorously deal with a busy workload and demanding clients;
- an enthusiasm to take on new challenges and broaden your knowledge base and skills set; and
- an interest in marketing, networking and business development activities.
